Special Talk on “Mushrooms of Sikkim”

The Department of Botany organised a Special Talk on “Mushrooms of Sikkim” on 29th August 2025. The programme aimed to enrich students’ knowledge about the diversity, ecological significance, and potential applications of mushrooms in Sikkim. The session began with a warm welcome and introductory remarks by Dr. Lhanzey P. Wangdi, Head, Department of Botany, NBBGC who highlighted the importance of mushroom studies in biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods.

The key speakers for the day were Mr. Pramod Hingmang and Ms. Bharti, who shared insightful presentations on the ecological, medicinal, and nutritional aspects of mushrooms. They emphasised the rich diversity of mushroom species in Sikkim, their cultural and economic importance, and applications of mushroom in food, health and sustainable practices. The programme was graced by the Principal, Dr. D. Purohit, whose encouraging presence motivated the participants.

The talk was attended by 40 UG and PG students along with members of the Botanical Society. The active participation of students made the session highly interactive and informative. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Rinkila Bhutia, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, NBBGC who expressed gratitude to the speakers, the Principal, faculty members, and participants for their cooperation and support in making the event a success.
