The Gender Sensitization Cell of Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College (NBBGC) in collaboration with Social Welfare and Justice Department, Women and Child Development Department Government of Sikkim recently held a district level awareness and sensitization programme titled “Inclusive Sikkim” to raise awareness about the various rights and protections guaranteed to transgender persons under the ‘Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2019’ Rule 2020.


The aim of the programme was to highlight the various issues pertaining to LGBTQIA+ community and to foster an atmosphere of inclusivity and understanding among students, faculty and staff members of the college. The event was co-organized by the Rainbow Hills Welfare Association (RHWA), an NGO working for the well-being of the LGBTQIA+ community in Sikkim and aimed to educate the community on the challenges faced by transgender persons in the state. The dignitaries of the programme included Mr. GL Meena, Assistant Collector and Mr. Arun Chettri, Welfare Officer, Gangtok District.
