Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College receives the prestigious DBT-STAR College Status

Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College has become the first college in Sikkim and North Bengal to receive the prestigious DBT-Star College status. The announcement was made in April 2026, highlighting the efforts of Principal Dr. D. Purohit, Coordinator Dr. Satyadeep S. Chhetri, and Asst. Coordinator Dr. Mingma T. Sherpa.

The college will receive roughly ₹1 crore in funding over three years to upgrade science labs, purchase equipment, and enhance research-oriented education. This status is granted by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India, to strengthen undergraduate science education. Only 10-15 colleges are selected nationwide each year.

NBBGC was mentored by Hindu College, University of Delhi, under the Vidya Vistaar Programme. The recognition aims to enhance practical skills and interdisciplinary learning in the Eastern Himalayan region.
