Empowering Sikkim Government Colleges through Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College (NBBGC), Gangtok, in collaboration with NIELIT Gangtok, successfully concluded a two-day Artificial Intelligence (AI) workshop for all Principals of Government Colleges in Sikkim in our college Cyber Security Lab.

The training, launched on 1st September 2025, is a pioneering initiative aimed at equipping the heads of various colleges with foundational and advanced AI knowledge. This programme marks the first step in a larger plan to cascade AI training to college staff and students across the state, promoting a culture of technological literacy and innovation.

The inaugural session witnessed esteemed guests, including Shri Subbiah G, Director, Scholarships, Exams & IT, Shri Praveen Pradhan, OSD, Higher Education, Dr. D. Purohit, Principal of NBBGC, Shri Khagendra Sharma, Director-in-Charge, NIELIT Gangtok, and Shri Samrat Pradhan, Joint Director, DIT, Govt. of Sikkim. The guests highlighted the importance of integrating technology into daily administrative processes and academic practices, emphasizing AI’s potential to enhance efficiency and innovation in the education sector.

The workshop’s first day focused on AI fundamentals, followed by sessions on constructing simple AI models, even with minimal prior experience. Advanced topics, including Deep Learning and Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, were also covered. The second day emphasized practical applications, including Prompt Engineering and building AI agents using LLMs.

The programme was highly enriching and inspiring, reflecting the commitment of educational institutions to harness emerging technologies for educational excellence
