One-Day Departmental Seminar organised by Department of Political Science, NBBGC

The Dept. of Political Science, NBBGC successfully conducted a one-day seminar on “Educational Governance and Planning in Sikkim” on 20th June 2025. The seminar aimed to provide the final year students with the platform to share their research work conducted during their last two semesters of graduation as a part of their sessional B.

The students shared their in-depth knowledge, experiences and insights of their research work based on the broad theme of present educational governance and planning in Sikkim. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Nawal K. Paswan, Dean of Students Welfare and Head of the Department, Dept. of Peace and Conflict Studies, Sikkim University. Along with Professor Paswan, three prominent guest speakers, Dr Geeta Nirola, Associate Professor, Department of Nepali, NBBGC, Dr. Krishna Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, NBBGC and Dr Homnath Luitel, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, NBBGC  shared their views and expertise. The seminar was graced by the presence of the Head of the Institution Dr. D. Purohit, Vice-Principal, Dr. Jiban Upadhyaya, Dean (Student Affairs), Dr. Sonam Bhutia, ADM Shir Munna Pradhan, HoDs and students.

The seminar comprised of six sub themes, namely;

(i) Women workforce in higher educational institutions in Sikkim

(ii) Pursue of regional languages in higher educational institutes in Sikkim

(iii) Impact of social media on mental health of undergraduate students of government colleges in Sikkim

(iv) Role of self-help group in rural development in Sikkim

(v) Women empowerment challenges and policy measures: skill development initiatives in Sikkim

(vi) Impact of social media on academic performance of undergraduate students of government colleges in Sikkim.

A total number of thirteen final year students presented their papers on the above sub themes. An interactive Q&A session was followed after each presentation, encouraging a healthy academic discussion among the participants.
