A valedictory program was held at Science Block of SRMUS at Tadong, on the conclusion of a week long “National workshop on Mathematical and Statistical Softwares”. The workshop was sponsored by Rastriya Uchhatar Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and organized jointly by NBBDC, Tadong and SRM University, Sikkim (SRMUS) with technical support from Department of Computer Science, NBBDC.
The programme was graced by Prof. Ch. Satish Kumar, Registrar, SRMUS, Dr. Bina Pradhan, Principal, NBBDC, Prof. Manoranjan Pal from ISI Kolkata, Dr. D. Purohit, Head, Department of Mathematics, NBBDC, Mr. S. Sundar Rajan, Associate Dean, SRMUS.
During the programme, Organising Secretary, Kshittiz Chettri gave a report of the workshop. The workshop was held from 22-28 September 2018. The venue for first five days was at NBBDC whereas last two days it was held at SRMUS. The workshop was addressed by 9 resource persons and had 138 registered participants. Both theoretical and lab sessions were organised.
Principal, NBBDC congratulated the organizers for smooth conduct of the workshop and appreciated the idea of jointly conducting the workshop. She shared that statistics has wide application across disciplines. Registrar SRMUS expressed his happiness on the smooth conduct of the workshop. He highlighted importance of SPSS in research. Further, he read out a couple of feedbacks submitted by participants and expressed satisfaction. Certificates were also handed over to the participants. Lastly, Co-Organising secretary Mr. Deepak Subedi proposed vote of thanks.
The effect of digital revolution was quite evident in the workshop by the fact that a quick online feedback system was designed and the feedback session was conducted right after the workshop. Participants were able to give the feedback online and the organizers were able to analyze the feedback on the spot itself. After analyzing the feedback, it was evident that the workshop was a grand success.
The workshop focused on handling of prominent statistical softwares like SPSS and ‘R’. The software would be a boon to the participants in producing high quality research article in fields like Management, Economics, Social Sciences etc. Further, mathematical softwares like Matlab and Latex were also introduced. Participants among other things learned how to use “Matlab” to restore old pictures that gets blurred with passage of time. They also learned how to produce high quality type set using latex that finds application in publication of scientific article in journals of repute.
